A Day At The Zoo

Nicole, Morgan, Bryce and I went to the Saginaw Children's Zoo with Grandma "Dear" on Thursday. My Mom is actualy Grandma Greer but when the kids were little they couldn't say Greer, so they call her Grandma Dear. It is fitting name because she is so "dear" to us all!
Our favorite amimals were the penquins.

And the monkeys!

Nicole, Morgan and Bryce on the train ride.

It wouldn't be as much fun without a little cotton candy!

Happy Birthday, Marnie!

Marnie celebrated her 14th birthday on Saturday. Joel and Kelly bought her a gun so she can go hunting this year! She is getting ready for back to school, and will be on the Lapeer West freshman volleyball team. She certainly has become a lovely young lady, not the little girl we met when she first moved here. Marnie, stop growing up so fast! Love ya!

Craft Time At Grandma's

Bryce, Morgan and Nicole showing off their craft project.
Morgan glues ribbon onto the inside of her book so she can tie it closed.

Nicole chose pretty paper to cover her book and put a bird on the front.

This is Bryce showing the front of his book with lions, monkeys and elephants on it.

And this is Bryce when I told him to turn it around and show me the back of his book!

Nicole learned how to use a brayer to make sure everything is glued well.

She added some ribbon to the cover of her book to dress it up a little bit.

Morgan picked really pretty coordinating papers for the outside and inside of her book.

They thought they had to jump while showing off their books.

Bryce, Morgan and Nicole with their finished book projects. It only took an hour and a half!

Lapeer Days

Morgan and Nicole entered the Little Miss Lapeer pageant. Nicole sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Morgan counted to 20 in spanish! They didn't win but it was fun to try, and each year that they try out they grow more confident on stage. I think Nicole is the cutest 5 year old in Lapeer County and Morgan is the cutest 7 year old in Lapeer County. Those judges must have needed to put their glasses on!

33 Years!

August 16, 2008 Rob and I celebrated 33 years of marriage. We rode the motorcycle up north and went in to Alpena for dinner, then we spent some time on the lake on Sunday before riding back home. 33 years sounds like a long time, but it sure went by fast!

Happy Birthday, Mitch!

August 12, 2008 I can't believe my baby boy turned 21 today! We had a cook out to celebrate with all the family, but I'm sure the real party will be this weekend!

Girl's Trip Summer "08

That's me, Traci, Val and Jennifer up north posing for my signature tree photos. (I like to take pictures of people peeking out from behind a tree!) We always have fun, relax a little, swim a little, have long talks where we solve the worlds problems (if only we were in charge!), and laugh a lot!

Happy Birthday to Kelly!

I don't have a picture to post of Kelly on her birthday because I was gone for the weekend on my annual "girl's only" up north trip. She is a little fussy about photos of herself, but one of these days we are going to have a photo shoot with her and her girls! She found out in July that she can stay off her meds that she was taking for a year, and will find out in 4 months if she is done taking them for good! Anyway, sorry I missed your birthday, Kelly, we'll do lunch, I'll have my people call your people! Seriously, though, it is nice to have her and her daughters in our family. It's another of those meant to be things, because when I was younger and having babies of my own, (long, long, long ago!) the name I picked out if I ever had a girl was "Kelly".

Nicole lost her first tooth!

Look at that beautiful smile Nicole has with her first tooth missing!
She put her tooth under her pillow that night and the tooth fairy brought her 5 dollars!

Finally Summertime!

Nicole is relaxing in the pool.

Last summer Bryce kept saying he would jump off the diving board next summer. Well, it is next summer and he kept his word!

Nick and Shelly's new boat. They are planning on lots of fun this summer with family and friends.

School's Out!

Marnie had a pool party to celebrate the end of the school year and spend time with her friends before she left to spend some time with her Dad. They had a blast in the pool and all the girls were really nice and fun to have over.

Morgan's New Glasses!

Look how cute Morgan looks with her new reading glasses! They are a pretty blue color to match her pretty eyes. Morgan is such a good reader and now she will probably read even faster with her new glasses. She likes to come to Grandma's library and check out books. If she is late bringing them back she has to pay Grandma 5 cents for each late book!

Dandelions

There is nothing more precious than the look on a child's face as when they hold out a fistful of fresh picked dandelions just for you! Most people complain about them in their yard because technically they are a weed, but I have always loved dandelions ever since I was a child. Do you remember holding one under someones chin to see if they liked butter? Or popping the flower off the stem with your thumb? And when they turn white, making a wish and blowing the little pieces into the air? Rob wanted to treat the lawn to get rid of them one year, but I asked him not to. They don't really hurt anything, they are pretty, and they only last for a couple of weeks in the spring. I didn't think he would listen to me, but he has left them alone so far. I have a poem that I think I wrote about dandelions when I was in elementary school. I say "I think" because I am too old to remember if I made it up or copied it, but I searched the internet and couldn't find it, so I am going to say I wrote it! Here it is:
Dandelions, dandelions,
golden and sweet,
make a golden carpet
under your feet.

Here is Bryce with Gus and Gomer, two new gnomes who traveled home with me from Florida! Bryce and I found them a spot on the gnome trail and they now live in our woods.

Congratulations, Shelly!

Our daughter-in-law, Shelly, graduated from Mott College today with a degree in nursing. Here she is with her friend Stephanie who also graduated. They decorated their caps for the occasion!
Nick, Shelly, Bryce, and Nicole.
I remember the first time I saw Shelly, she was a young student at Seaton Elementary School. I was walking out of a meeting in the library, and she was standing there in front of some lockers. I remember thinking what a beautiful girl she was. She had long hair and the biggest blue eyes I had ever seen. It must have been fate that many years later, she married Nick and became a part of our family. And she gave us two beautiful grandchildren! The cutest little boy, and a little girl with long hair and big blue eyes just like her Mom!

Florida Fun

I'm back in Michigan from my Florida vacation, and finally caught up with things. I had a wonderful week in Clearwater visiting my sister Jan and her family and spending time with Mom. We celebrated her birthday on April 3 with some shopping, photos on the beach at sunset, and then a late dinner at E&E Stakeout restaurant.

Dusty, Chris, Jan, Mom, and Darren
We celebrated Mom's birthday again on Sunday with Jan's boys at the Lucky Dill restaurant. It is a New York style deli restaurant, with free cheescake for dessert!

Had to have a photo by a palm tree!
It was a great week, only one day of rain. We spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool, a couple of trips to the beach, shopped and went to restaurants. But most importantly, it was so nice to spend some real quality time with my Mom and my sister, and to also get to know my nephews as the young adult men they have become. I had not seen them in quite a few years. Jan's other son, Nathan, lives in North Dakota, and he and his fiancee are expecting a baby boy soon!
